PROJECT CONCEPT

OQ, formerly known as Orpic, is one of the leading oil and gas companies in Oman, operating major industrial and energy projects across the region. For this project, we carried out the manufacturing and installation of various GRP composite products, including treatment tank covers, canopies, enclosures, gratings, ladders, stacks, and pipes. The project was executed with a strong focus on durability, safety, and long-term industrial performance.

 

The products were manufactured using advanced GRP composite materials that are non-metallic, non-corrosive, chemical-resistant, fire-retardant, and odour-free. These properties make GRP an ideal solution for demanding industrial environments where exposure to moisture, chemicals, and harsh weather conditions is common. The lightweight yet high-strength nature of the material also ensured easy handling, low maintenance, and long service life.

The FRP covers and roof panels were engineered, fabricated, and installed as part of the EPC scope for various process tanks in the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) at the Sohar Refinery, covering an area of approximately 2,800 sq.m. These tanks are critical components in the treatment of refinery effluent and are known to generate toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S). To ensure environmental safety and operational efficiency, the tanks were fully enclosed with FRP covers manufactured using high chemical and weather-resistant vinyl ester resin reinforced with ECR (E-Glass Corrosion Resistant) chopped strand mats.

The FRP panels provided durable and corrosion-resistant protection for the following treatment units:

 

Each panel was designed with a non-slippery gritted surface, allowing safe access for technicians during routine inspections and instrument readings, even under wet conditions. These walkable roof panels enhanced operational safety while maintaining structural integrity in a highly corrosive wastewater treatment environment.

 

These GRP composite solutions are widely used in water desalination plants, oil and gas industries, and other heavy industrial applications where chemical exposure, hazardous odours, and corrosion are major concerns. Their non-corrosive, chemical-resistant, and durable properties make them highly reliable for demanding industrial environments. Being part of this project allowed us to showcase our expertise in delivering customized composite solutions that meet the strict operational, safety, and performance requirements of modern industrial facilities.
